Cattle grazing 1   Payments to farmers and landowners for good environmental practice should be more accessible now the Environmental Stewardship has been launched.
There are now three schemes available, the Entry Level Scheme (ELS), Organic Entry Level Scheme (OELS) and the Higher Level Scheme (HLS).
The ELS and OELS are non-discretionary, land management schemes that aim to attract large numbers of farmers and result in significant areas of the countryside being signed up to the two schemes.
The HLS is discretionary and includes capital works as well as more advanced and specific land management options.
